Therapy in San Diego
Feeling stuck? At a crossroads in your career or emotional life? Even the strongest among us can feel lost, unsure, ambivalent, or unhappy at times. As a Couples Therapy Counselor, I can help you understand and manage whatever life throws at you, and how to do it successfully. I believe that you have the strength not just to survive, but to thrive!
I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT#102684), working for and supervised by Kathryn de Bruin (LMFT# 43615)
I have spent my last 3 years as an Associate Family Therapist helping couples, individuals, and families understand and change the patterns that keep them from reaching their full potential for fulfillment and connection with others at the Alliant Couple and Family Clinic.
I believe in the concept of the wounded healer, in the innate force inside all of us to strive for healing and healthy connection with ourselves and with others. Having gone through my own personal and relational struggles from an early age, I have enormous respect for clients' with anxiety, depression, grief, and other difficulties for their courage to face them and seek help to change the unsatisfactory status quo.
I am an Emotionally Focused Therapist, continuously learning with the best trainers in the field. I strive to provide a safe environment that fosters individuals and partners taking risks to express their most vulnerable emotions, to truly hear each other and be fully heard and understood. Whether the main issue is infidelity, communication, or other type of disconnection, clients are supported to reach out to each other for genuine, heartfelt connection, to see in each others' eyes the love and joy too often couples lose along the way. Everyone longs to feel understood and loved, even in our imperfections and when we make mistakes. I want to help you find attachment security in your relationship so you too can feel the joy to love and be loved without the constant fear of losing the very connection which you care for the most.
I honor each person that walks in to session and meet them where they are. I look forward to meeting you and working with you to achieve your goals.
Fees and Info
My fees are $125 per session. I have a need-based sliding scale depending on client's household income and number of dependents. Each session usually lasts 55 minutes, although sometimes we may go longer, depending on both our availability and session topic (I don't charge more if the session goes longer). I accept cash, check, or credit, but I do ask that if you are planning to pay with cash to please bring the exact amount because I do not carry change.
Can i use my insurance?
In my practice, I do not accept insurance. However, I would be happy to provide a list of therapy appointments and payments to you, as some insurance companies may accept the list and cover all or part of the cost.
What does it mean that you are an associate therapist?
To obtain a license in Marriage and Family Therapy in California, therapists must first earn a Master's degree from an accredited university, completing all of the required courses, and then gain 3000 hours of clinical experience and additional supervision hours. Until these requirements have been met and the state licensing exam has been passed, a therapist is considered an associate. Associates work directly under a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who provides supervision and guidance about therapeutic, ethical, and legal practices.
I obtained my Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Alliant International University in 2017, have completed my 3,000 hours of experience working with individuals, couples, and families, and am waiting for BBS to review my application for licensing. My supervisor is Kathryn de Bruin, LMFT #43615.
